Free depression screenings offered to Hanover Township older adults

In celebration of Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day, the Hanover Township Department of Aging Services will be holding free, in-person depression screenings on May 6 for residents 55 years and older at the Township Senior Center (240 S. IL Route 59, Bartlett). Beginning at 1PM, Township clinicians will evaluate seniors and provide referrals to local agencies or schedule in-house therapy through the Township program, Communities Helping Others Preserve Everyday (C-HOPE) at the senior center. Seniors who complete a screening will receive a free stress relief kit.

C-HOPE is provided to residents at no cost, regardless of insurance coverage.

A unique community-based program funded by the Hanover Township Mental Health Board, C-HOPE provides residents with therapy and/or psychiatric care at no charge depending on need. Clinicians offer individual therapy, group sessions, and educational programs.

National Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day, celebrated on May 6, is designed to raise public awareness around the mental health of older Americans. The Institute on Medicine found that nearly one in five older Americans has one or more mental health or substance abuse conditions.

To schedule an appointment for a screening, please call (630) 483-5660.
