The fact that the pandemic has increased the prevalence of mental health disorders and substance abuse has been widely reported. Between February and July 2020, nearly a quarter of consumers worldwide experienced depression and about a fifth experienced anxiety (see Pandemic Has Increased Worldwide Incidence Of Anxiety & Depression). In the United States, the average share of adults reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression was 41% in January 2021, compared to 11% between January and June 2020.
