30% chance Caribbean disturbance could develop into tropical depression, named storm – WFTV

ORLANDO, Fla. — Less than a week into hurricane season, there’s a tropical disturbance tracking toward Central America.

Channel 9 meteorologist George Waldenberger said there’s a 30% chance that it will develop into a tropical cyclone by this weekend.

Waldenberger said he’ll keep his eyes on the area for the next week to monitor for any further development potential.

“We still have to monitor this area next week, as the disturbed weather may be able to trigger further development with some potential to eventually move into the Gulf,” Waldenberger said. “No threats to us right now obviously, just an area to watch.”

For now, he said Central Florida can expect weather that’s drier than normal before rain chances increase this weekend and next week.
